You Already Tried to Treat Depression
Nothing Worked
There’s another avenue worth exploring, with your therapist in the room.
Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy in Arlington, Massachusetts
The List Feels Like Your Depression is Laughing at You
The list is everything failed attempt to get this condition under control.
You know the list by heart. The therapists, in order. The medications, with the years attached.
Somebody asks what you’ve already tried, and you can recite it without looking anything up.
Some of it helped, but fundamentally, nothing’s changed.
One of the hardest kinds of depression is depression you’ve already tried to treat.
What the Effort Costs
Heavy is the word you’d use, if anyone asked and waited for your answer.
Motivation isn’t there when you reach for it.
Plans with friends are the easiest ones to cancel.
Your partner asks what’s wrong and you say nothing, because nothing specific is. Nothing you can articulate anyways.
What if this is simply how I’m going to feel from now on?
It doesn’t have to be that way. And exploring what’s possible is a smaller decision than it sounds.
Your Therapist Is With You the Whole Session
Ketamine opens a window in which familiar thought patterns loosen their hold. The work happens inside that window, in a session that is medically supervised throughout.
The length is deliberate. There’s space to stay with whatever surfaces.
Preparation comes first, and the weeks afterward are part of the treatment too.
Three of our clinicians are trained in ketamine-assisted psychotherapy, and one of them is with you for the entire session.
What Becomes Possible for You Afterward
Not every experience is dramatic, nor does it need to be. No responsible treatment can promise a particular outcome.
The important question is what becomes possible afterward, and this is the territory the work aims at:
- Gaining distance from thoughts you’ve never been able to question.
- Finding curiosity where there’s been numbness.
- Reconnecting with people you’ve quietly pulled away from.
- Feeling something real when you picture your future.
- Carrying movement back into your mornings.
Wanting relief is reason enough to ask the question.
Where Your Work Begins, Deepens, and Lands

1
Preparation
Before anything else, we talk about what you’re hoping will change. Preparation gives the session an intention and a direction, so you walk in knowing what you’re there for.
You set the intention.
-
2
Dosing
The session runs roughly three hours and is medically supervised, with your therapist present throughout. There’s room to work with the emotions, memories, beliefs, and perspectives that surface.
The clock stops being the limit.

Integration
Afterward, we translate what came up into changes that matter in everyday life. This is the part that shows up on an ordinary Tuesday.
Movement you can actually use.

Straight Answers at the Consultation
We’ll tell you plainly whether ketamine-assisted psychotherapy makes sense for what you’ve been dealing with.
Michael Koren, PsyD, Founder
I started Brighter Life because I wanted a place where therapy could be personal and deep without floating off into the abstract.
Why people become who they become is genuinely interesting to me. The harder and more useful question is what helps them move.
Over the years this has grown into a team of therapists who each bring something different: trauma and EMDR, relationships and intimacy, women’s mental health, pregnancy and postpartum, identity, and longstanding emotional patterns.
Some weeks the useful thing here is a hard question, and some weeks it’s connecting two things you’d never have put together, or learning a concrete skill, or slowing down far enough that you can tell what you think. Mostly I want you to leave here different from how you came in, working with someone who is interested in exactly that.
Frequently Asked Questions
If conventional treatment hasn’t moved your depression far enough, this is the situation it’s built for. It isn’t right for everyone, and the consultation is where we work that out.
It runs longer than a standard therapy hour, roughly three hours, and it’s medically supervised. Your therapist stays with you the whole time, so whatever comes up gets worked with while it’s still live.
Preparation is conversation, where we map what you’re hoping will change so the session has a direction. Integration is what happens afterward, when we take what surfaced and turn it into something that holds up once the session is behind you.
Yes, and how the two fit together is worth sorting out early. We’ll talk through at the consultation how ketamine-assisted psychotherapy would sit alongside the therapy you’re already doing.
Tell us a little about what’s been going on, what you’d like help with, what you’ve already tried, and whether you’d rather meet in Arlington or online. We’ll go from there.
