About Therapy With Kim Herrera

When the Answer You’ve Given for Years Stops Fitting

A neighbor asks what you do, or how the kids are, or where home is. The answer you have given for years is right there, and it no longer describes anything true.

You give it anyway. The accurate version would take twenty minutes, and you don’t have it yet.

Sometimes the hardest part of a transition is realizing the old version of life isn’t coming back.

Why Reinvention Arrives Without Instructions

A child leaves home. A relationship changes.

You move to a new country. Parenting shifts.

A career that once defined you changes. Or you finally give yourself permission to question something you have carried quietly for years.

None of those arrive with instructions, and most of them land well after the age when anyone assumes a person would be starting over.

What Gets Left Out When You Name the Anxiety

You name the anxiety. The transition stays out of the sentence entirely.

Therapy with Kim makes room for both. There is time to talk through what has changed, and the conversation stays connected to culture, family, relationships, health, identity, and the larger context of your life.

Kim works with people across the lifespan, and she has particular experience with teachers.

Say It in the Language It Happened In

For Spanish-speaking clients, and for people in the middle of an immigration or a cultural transition, being able to talk about an experience in the language and cultural context that feels most natural can matter enormously.

Kim provides therapy in English and Spanish. A memory that happened in Spanish can be told in Spanish, at the speed you actually think.

Kim gives cultural context real weight. What counts as a family obligation, what a move actually cost, what you set down to be here: those belong in the room rather than underneath it.

Your Sessions Shift With What Your Week Requires

You can expect a flexible approach rather than a single rigid therapy model.

Some sessions the useful thing is being listened to closely by someone genuinely following the thread. The next one turns on a perspective you couldn’t reach from inside your own head.

Sometimes what helps is one concrete coping strategy you can use on a Tuesday. And sometimes the work is rediscovering interests and parts of yourself that got lost underneath years of responsibility.

About Kim Herrera, LMHC

Hi, I’m Kim. I’m a bilingual Licensed Mental Health Counselor, and I provide therapy in both English and Spanish.

Across the lifespan, I’ve worked with clients around anxiety, depression, trauma and abuse, immigration challenges, relationships, parenting, identity, self-esteem, empty-nest transitions, and other major life changes. I also have particular experience working with teachers.

My training includes psychology, international relations, training and development, and mental health counseling. Having lived abroad and traveled extensively has also shaped the importance I place on cultural context and perspective. My approach is empathetic, holistic, and flexible, drawing from person-centered therapy, CBT, creative approaches, engaged listening, and wellness practices.

Outside therapy, I enjoy family and friends, arts and crafts, nature walks, board games, foreign films, pottery, and snorkeling.

Tell Kim the Version That’s True Now

Nobody is going to hurry you into the next chapter.

The aim is feeling steadier, more understood, and more capable of shaping what comes next.

If the old version of your life isn’t coming back, this is a good place to say so.

Tell Kim What Changed

Tell Us Where You’d Like This to Move

You don’t need the whole thing figured out before you write to us.

Some people know exactly which kind of therapy they want. Others know only that something isn’t working anymore, and that’s enough to start with.

Tell us what’s been going on, what you’ve already tried, and what you’d like to feel different. We’ll think it through with you and point you toward the therapist and the approach that fit.

You’ve done plenty of understanding already, and now it’s worth finding out what gets it moving.
