Individual Therapy
What’s Been Weighing on You Is Worth Exploring
Most people start individual therapy long before anything falls apart. Something has been wearing on you for a while, and it hasn’t let up on its own.
Anxiety that shows up more often than you’d admit to anyone. Work that gives back less than you put in. Relationships that keep pulling the same reaction out of you.
A transition, a loss, a question about who you are now, or a way of coping that stopped being enough.
Sometimes you know exactly what the problem is. Sometimes the most honest sentence available is, “I don’t really feel like myself.” Either one is a real place to begin, and neither one needs a diagnosis attached to it first.

A Place to Talk Is Just the Beginning
The patterns you’re living inside don’t show themselves until you have somewhere to keep bringing them.
How far that gets you depends on who’s doing the looking with you, and on how well their attention lines up with what you came for.
Most of what gets called fit is guesswork from where you’re standing, because nobody hands you the criteria.
You Deserve a Therapist Who Gets You
The first is interest. Some of our clinicians are drawn to trauma, others to relationships and intimacy, others to identity and the beliefs a person formed early and never revisited.
The second is training. Our clinicians work with trauma-focused therapy, EMDR, Internal Family Systems, psychodynamic and existential therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, DBT-informed strategies, relationship-focused therapy, and mindfulness-based approaches.
The third is style, and it’s the one you’ll notice first. Some of our clinicians work in a structured way and end sessions with a plan, and some stay open-ended and follow whatever shows up in the room.
Fit is where those three meet the thing you’re trying to change.

Expertise Matters and So Does Feeling Understood
The best clinician on this team is the wrong one for you if their attention lives somewhere other than the thing you came to change.
That’s why the pairing carries more weight here than the model does, and when it lines up, what follows is specific and unglamorous.
You Notice What’s Happening Before It Becomes a Pattern
A pattern you used to name three days later starts arriving while it’s still happening.
Something sets you off and you have a say in what comes next. Your own read on a situation starts holding up well enough to act on.
And less of your life goes to old fears, beliefs, and expectations that used to make the decision before you got to it.

Write About the Thing That’s Been Wearing on You
Interests, style, and training only mean something held up against one sentence about what you’re trying to change.
That sentence is the part only you have.
We work with people all over Massachusetts on video, and in person at the Arlington office.

Tell Us Where You’d Like This to Move
You don’t need the whole thing figured out before you write to us.
Some people know exactly which kind of therapy they want. Others know only that something isn’t working anymore, and that’s enough to start with.
Tell us what’s been going on, what you’ve already tried, and what you’d like to feel different. We’ll think it through with you and point you toward the therapist and the approach that fit.
You’ve done plenty of understanding already, and now it’s worth finding out what gets it moving.
