EMDR Therapy
Knowing It’s Over Hasn’t Changed How You React
You can completely understand that something is over and still react as though it’s happening now.
Your mind knows you’re safe. Your body tenses anyway.
A memory arrives and your chest goes tight, or something small happens at home and your reaction is enormous.
You’ve talked the experience through more than once, and it still carries the same force.

You Want to Remember It Without Going Back Inside It
You want to remember what happened without being pulled back into it.
It should sit in your history instead of interrupting your present.
Between those two is charge: the emotional and physiological force the memory still carries.
Charge is what EMDR goes after.
EMDR Lowers What That Memory Costs You
EMDR, or Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, is a structured trauma therapy.
You hold a piece of the memory in mind while your attention moves side to side, following your clinician’s hand or alternating taps.
That back-and-forth is called bilateral stimulation, and it keeps you here in the session while the memory is live.
We work in short rounds, and we check where the charge is between each one.

Nothing About Your Memory Gets Erased
You keep every detail of what happened.
The memory becomes something that happened, rather than something still happening.
You Won’t Begin With the Worst of It
We start by looking together at what’s bringing you in, your history, which experiences are still reaching into your present, and whether EMDR is right for you now.
Multiple clinicians here are trained in EMDR, and the one you’re matched with keeps the rest in view: the beliefs that formed around what happened, and what your body still does about it.
Then comes preparation: steadying skills for when something intensifies, and enough trust with your clinician to go somewhere hard and come back.
The order matters. The hardest material waits until you have the footing to work with it.
Watch for the Session Where the Memory Gets Boring
Early on, going back over the memory takes something out of you.
Further into a course of EMDR, you go back and find much less there.
You can tell the whole thing in order, and telling it costs you almost nothing.
That flatness is one of the clearest signs the work is landing. A memory that has finished behaving like an alarm starts behaving like a record.

Reminders Stop Taking the Whole Day From You
Sleep comes easier.
Something reminds you of what happened and your reaction stays proportional to the moment.
You’re gentler with yourself when it does get to you.
Staying present with the person across from you takes less effort.
Find Out Whether EMDR Fits What You’re Carrying
EMDR fits some people and some moments better than others.
The honest answer takes a conversation.
Tell us what still reaches into your present, and what it costs you when it does.
We’ll think through your history with you, whether EMDR is a good place to start, and what to try instead if it isn’t.

Tell Us Where You’d Like This to Move
You don’t need the whole thing figured out before you write to us.
Some people know exactly which kind of therapy they want. Others know only that something isn’t working anymore, and that’s enough to start with.
Tell us what’s been going on, what you’ve already tried, and what you’d like to feel different. We’ll think it through with you and point you toward the therapist and the approach that fit.
You’ve done plenty of understanding already, and now it’s worth finding out what gets it moving.
